My fascination continues with Refuge Cove on West Redonda Island, about 30 miles north my home in qathet. This spot taps into something deep in me, something to do with my mom, who is nearly 20 years gone now. She loved the Yukon, and discovering special, wild places. Yukon artists in my memory also had an obsession with old shacks. She never visited Refuge Cove as far as I know, but she grew up on the coast, would have loved this cozy place and would have taken hundreds of photos, like me. The more I learn about the First Nations that lived here and traveled these waterways for thousands of years, the deeper I feel the historical and spiritual significance of these naturally sheltered spots .
